My favourite Narnia book growing up was The Dawn Treader. It had exciting adventures, a redemption story and a trip to the end of the world. Aslan showed up thruout the book, not just at the end. Lucy, my fav character of the series gets more air time there. Maybe it's time to read them again. It's been years since i have done so.

I hope that they make the last movie too. But so far who ever makes it never gets that far. It needs to be well- done with good special effects to bring about the end of the world and keeping to Lewis's story of the afterlife part.

Agree, agree, agree, agree. LOVE this praise for AOR and Dark Crystal, and your reasoning for it! Especially the metaphors to the real world. A lot of people really will deny evidence that's right in front of them, because it's too scary to consider. And, if they admit that it's real, they'll have no choice but to disrupt everything about their comfortable lives to DO something about it. I grew up with Jim Henson's work, including The Dark Crystal, but sadly, my husband did not, and so he's in the "puppets are weird and childish" camp. 🥲 I have yet to convince him that this _level_ of high-art puppetry is _nothing_ like kids puppet shows. But *_I_* will love it til the day I die! And I almost DID die when I learned they're _not freaking making a season two!!!_ 😱😫😭

As a Christian, this is one of the best things I have loved about Narnia. Aslan is the Narnian form of Jesus and he talks to the humans about how they need to know him in their own world. This is why Narnia is always so special to me. I am also LDS and a little known thought in our expanded theology is that we are by far not the only people out there. We believe that there are worlds without number out there that are all God’s children and Jesus’s atonement applies to them too. You can see why this would then connect with me on an even deeper level, as when I read this as a child I was just thinking “yep, this is a fictional manifestation of this doctrine” that at the time I didn’t know other mainstream Christians including Lewis didn’t necessarily believe.

Sitting with your thoughts, I can't help but wonder if there's been more change in filmmakers and their subject matter, or audiences and their lens. Your analysis made me think of the movie The Boy and The Heron, even though it's not *that* connected thematically. But I thought of it because the main character living through war was an event that created a clear before and after, similar your listed movies. Craig Mazin said in an interview that audiences for The Last of Us TV show had greater frame of reference for viral pandemics than when the original video game came out, so it made a difference in the adaptation. The easiest answer would be both. Recent years have affected what stories filmmakers want to tell, as well as the way audiences connect to those stories. Of the three movies you focused on, I've only seen Asteroid City, and there was a moment from the trailer that originally struck me and made me want to see the movie. Where Jason Schwartzman says "like we're doomed," and Scarlett Johansson answers, "maybe we are." It was oddly comforting, and I'm sure it could mean a lot of different things, but the first thing I thought of was climate change.

crane has always been my favorite member of the 5. he's reserved at first, but clearly very opinionated anyway. theres something about how he only eludes to how hurt he is by not being chosen, but doesnt get combative or personal that makes him so likable to me.

I get that the movie is loosely based on on history and people want historical accuracy but if it was it would be boring harsh and not as good and the movie wouldn’t sell as well and the crowds wouldn’t come out happier than they came in

Definitely relate man, it's so hard to be passionate about something you're working on, even if you don't intend to sell it, and keep all that excitement inside but desperately wanting someone else to be excited about it at the same time. Thanks for breaking those barriers for us. Been working on replicas of illuminated manuscripts and devotional art which has been a great experiment and learning curve. Been giving most of them away to friends, and always awkward about asking money for any of them, but coming to realise more and more that this talent is genuinely a gift, and it's worth something.

Everything you said is wrong go and watch the movies again the reason why obi wan kenobi didnt tell Luke about Darth vader being his father was because he it could be used against him if the empire found who he was, And Obiwan did not want Luke to kill vader he just didnt realise there was good still inside him The Jedi have always been known for keeping the peace and good in the galaxy and Yoda is a powerful and wise jedi also Its just The last jedi is a shit movie and the sequel trilogy is not even cannon also the guy who made those three films did not even know what he was doing after he got the rights and thats why we got three rubbish movies that didnt even make sense End of story

Have you read Planet Narnia yet? I think it’s super helpful at connecting all the weird themes in Narnia not only to itself, but also to much of Lewis’ other works especially the Random trilogy. Side note: I prefer the BBC movies to the Disney ones, at least story/acting wise.
